When I use money to do something useless or non-productive, I say the money was "wasted".
When I use it for something beneficial, I mostly say I "spent" it.
I need to spend my life.
Every second of my life is worth a lot.
It is up to me to to spend it well
When I use money for something useless or non-productive, I say, "well, money was meant to be spent. It will be of no use when I'm 6 feet under".

I am spending my life well though. Every micro second of it.
